Indigenous cuisine is being reclaimed and reinvented by a new guard of chefs. Follow Cezin Nottaway, Rich Francis and Shane Chartrand as they discover their people’s story on a plate.

The story
Across six communities, three Indigenous chefs explore the connections between food, identity and the land. Cezin Nottaway, Rich Francis and Shane Chartrand step beyond restaurant kitchens to meet people reclaiming culinary traditions and finding new ways to carry them forward.
From the coast of Prince Rupert to the plains of Maskwacis and the backcountry of the Nemiah Valley, each journey opens a conversation about resilience, food access and reconciliation. Ingredients such as beaver tail, moose nose, seal and bison heart become starting points for stories of loss, healing, pride and belonging.
Intimate and personal, Red Chef Revival is more than a cooking show. It is a people’s story on a plate.
Project milestones
A winner of the STORYHIVE $100K Edition, the series premiered at a sold-out screening at Toronto’s Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in April 2019. Its festival journey took the stories of these communities to audiences in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
